Giardino del Cielo sought to develop a neglected area of Rome around the Colosseum. By developing an Italian Garden and Villa, the site could be revitalized within the neighborhood. Here the garden is relatively small to contain the formal garden area with the Bosco space acting as a public park, providing quieter, recreational space for Rome inhabitants.
The villa is situated on the summit of formal garden ascent. The North and West elevations reconcile the villa with its surroundings, with the facades responding to different views from the garden sequence. The North elevation provides a reception/cafe space on the ground floor with the main permanent cartography gallery on the level above.
